in memory of where they died . italy
Some of us walk out the door and never return home. We die on the road from here to there during our journey in life.
In Italy there’s a long tradition for paying homage to relatives and friends at the site where they died while they were journeying from one place to another. This photo essay documents the ways in which people in Italy mark the spot of a loved one’s death while he or she was en route. The photos were taken in June 2009.
In Memory of Where They Died was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Editorial Photo Essay category of the International Photography Awards 2009.
